Review: Maybe Someday

Maybe Someday Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this novel. The text messages added something I didn't expect to the novel. I also enjoyed the song lyrics. However, I did find parts of the novel slow, and the ending was not really what I expected for an ending to a novel. It felt more like the ending of a short story. Over all I enjoyed the characters and the story.

Review: Alanna: The First Adventure

Alanna: The First Adventure Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I was younger I read some Tamora Pierce, but I never picked up this series. I'm glad that I finally did pick it up and read this one. I'm now a little sad the library is closed, (9pm on a Saturday) and I will have to wait until Monday to get the rest of the series.

I would highly recommend this book. I know from reading previous books that I will likely feel the same about the entire series.

Review: The Siren

The Siren The Siren by Kiera Cass
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this novel. I think I might have actually enjoyed it more than the Selection. I like the fantasy element added to the real world. Also, I really liked Kahlen and Akinli. Elizabeth, Miaka, Padma, and Aisling; Kahlen's sister siren are also interesting characters. This was a simple easy read, and just what I needed when I read it.

Review: The Pirate Lord

The Pirate Lord The Pirate Lord by Sabrina Jeffries
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I found this book to be mostly enjoyable. However, the last quarter of the book didn't sit well with me. I know this is a historical romance from the British perspective. They seem to follow a certain pattern and this one didn't break from that pattern. I thought it was going to and when it didn't I found that a let down.

Sara and Gideon were both enjoyable characters to spend time with and I enjoyed the sparks. The romance in this novel was extremely satisfying. However, because of the ending I will not be recommending this novel.

Review: Tenth of December

Tenth of December Tenth of December by George Saunders
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. Yes, I liked some more than others, but I think that is always the case when you are reading a book that is many separate stories.

My favorite stories were Victory Dance, Escape From Spiderhead, and The Semplica Girls Diaries. I liked these stories because they surprised me. I did not expect the direction they took when I started them. It is not often a story so draws you in that you don't see the darkness until it has completely surrounded you. These stories were not what they seemed at first and I liked the unexpected inevitability of them.

I highly recommend this collection of stories.

Review: それでも世界は美しい 1

それでも世界は美しい 1 それでも世界は美しい 1 by Dai Shiina
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

I watched the anime of this about a year ago. I also read some of the manga at that point as well. I decided to start over again though because it had been a long time since I'd read and I wanted a refresh on the story. Nike is a great character and I'm looking forward to rereading this manga.

Review: When a Scot Ties the Knot

When a Scot Ties the Knot When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is my favorite Tessa Dare novel. It was sweet in so many ways. Captain Logan MacKenzie is a figment of Maddie's imagination. She invents him to avoid a London season. Ten years later Captain Logan MacKenzie shows up on her door step. Maddie is shocked to find he got her letters and mortified. Logan uses the letters to get her to marry him. Maddie might not know Captain MacKenzie, but he knows her and she has a place that he and his men can be safe in the Highland. The characters were great and Maddie and Logan had chemistry I believed. There weren't any petty misunderstandings or other romance troupes that bother me. I highly recommend this novel.
